Self-Restoration through the power of wild herbs.
I’m sure you’ve never heard of Bergenia before. And that’s absolutely fine because only a handful of people have.
Bergenia is a beautiful pink flower with large, thick, green leaves. However, its beauty does not stop at its appearance.
Bergenia has a history of medicinal use in India, Nepal, and China, to treat everything from coughing to pulmonary disease. There are medicinal elements to be found all throughout the Bergenia plant. For instance, the rhizomes of the plant have been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to dissolve kidney stones (1).
But we were most curious about why local Siberians love adding Bergenia to their Chaga brews. Here's what they told us:
Most teas are oxidized or fermented by hand, but Bergenia undergoes it naturally as it grows.
Bergenia leaves are covered by snow for most of the year, which breaks down their structure under the frosty blanket.
When spring comes around, the leaves begin to ferment naturally. Fermented foods are rich in probiotics and enzymes, so Bergenia has plenty of health benefits to offer!
But it isn't just the health benefits. Fermented Bergenia helps to open up Chaga in flavor and nutrients, which is why locals love adding Bergenia to their Chaga brews.
Another important health benefit of Bergenia is Immunomodulation.
It is essential to have a strong immune system for your body to fight off infection, viruses, and bacteria.
It is also important that your immune system is not overactive, or it may attack the healthy cells in your body. This is where immunomodulators help. Immunomodulators can strengthen the immune system without making it overactive.
Bergenia is rich in polyphenols, including the compound Bergenin, which has been shown to promote a strong immunomodulatory effect (2).
As both Chaga and Bergenia are immunomodulators, taking them together creates healthy and vital synergy.
Adding just a tiny bit of Bergenia to Chaga is an ancient Siberian recipe shared with us by the indigenous people of Baikal lands.
Chaga and Bergenia combine quite well into an herbal tea. There is a nice earthiness from the Chaga, and a refreshing astringency from the Bergenia. This is a perfect decaffeinated drink to enjoy daily.
Naturally fermented Bergenia adds enzymes and probiotics for better bowel movement. Both Bergenia and Chaga modulate immune system for proper function.
“Delicious!
I love this tea! This is also my favorite brand, and I've tried at least 3 others. It's rich tasting, a nice alternative to coffee, and it's caffeine-free. I also bought this brands Ivan tea and the peppermint with rose hips - excellent. I mixed them together along with rooibos, and it was a taste sensation!”

“Feeling Energized and Clear!
This is my second order (two bags this time) of my new friend, Chaga Tea with Bergenia. Seasonally, I give up coffee and switch to teas... because with tea such as Chaga... it just supports my goal of being as clean as I can stand with all I consume. This Chaga tea tastes great and I feel clean, clear headed and energized with absolutely no stimulants. I am loving this Chaga Tea!!”
